Gym Peeves

So I have been trying sooo hard to eat better and exercise all the time.
Eating well is hard because I love Taco Bell and sugar.
Sue me.
But I have been trying to buy more whole foods and cooking meals blah blah blah.
Then Brock and I go to the gym.  We try to everyday but realistically we go about 5 times a week.
Sometimes I run a mile and a half and I'm dead, and sometimes I feel like I could keep running forever, so I do.
I don't really have a specific goal for every workout.
I like to keep myself on my toes.
But summer is coming and I want to be confident, comfortable and to look like this:

You know what I hate??
People who stare us down on our way in.
It's like some competition. They are trying to figure out if they are in better shape then me.
I feel like I have to flex as I walk by or something.
You know what's worse then that??
But no matter what I do, I always run on the treadmill.
You are running and you can see the person next to you complete stranger, looking at the info on your treadmill out of the corner of your eye.
HEY GUY, I know you are like 45 years old and you are so proud that you are running faster then me, but wipe the smug look off your face because I have been running for 30 minutes and you just started.
And stop looking at how many calories I am burning.
Stop.
Maybe YOU have more calories to burn because of that pint of Ben and Jerry's you had last night.
At least that's what I tell myself.

But that aside, working out has been great.
Not that there has been a dramatic change in my body yet, but there has been in my mind.
I feel better about myself. In every way. I feel like I could make an infomercial about it.
I gain confidence. Which goes a long way.
And I have been so incredibly inspired by tons of blogs out there with people who are doing the same thing as me.
Some of you are so driven and amazing!
My biggest struggle is making time for the gym, even when it's not the most convenient. Even when I'm tired. Or when I don't want to. Getting there is half my battle.

What is your workout routine?
Your biggest struggle?

  3. yeah, for me, the biggest battle is definitely getting there. I just don't want to do it. Once I'm there, though, I work out and feel good about it...

  4. Ohh good Im glad someone shared the Jenna Marbles video - hilarious!
I sometimes hang a towel over the display - that way nobody else can look at it and i don't just focus on the time.

  5. My biggest struggle is getting myself out of my warm comfy bed and off to the cold pool at 4:30 AM. But I totally know what you mean, I hate when people are looking at me at the gym, but I admit I do check other people's bodies out, sue me. I just compare myself to them out of jealousy or for motivation.

  6. Oh goodness... I know exactly what you mean about the weird looks when you walk in the gym! I always feel like people are thinking that (Am I more in shape than this girl?). I'm so glad I'm not the only one! And I definitely know what you mean about people checking out your stats on the treadmill!

  7. Wow...I so thankful that I am blessed with a home gym! I can't believe how catty people are?!?!? Why can't it be more supportive? That treadmill guy is just a hater...you should just tell him to go ahead and watch the TVs or listen to music like everyone else :)

One a side note, if you figure out the answer as to why, somedays, I feel like I could pound out HOURS of cardio and others I feel like a limp noodle, I would love to know!!!! :)

  10. The looks when you walk in the door...that is why I joined the Y...just people like me trying to make better life choices. I would never go if I belonged to a "trendy" gym. You are adorable, Olivia. It was so good to see you on Sunday.

  11. Why oh why is taco bell so freaking good?! I am always so incredibly self conscious when I lift weights by myself! Everyone stares at me like I'm the biggest idiot, at least that's what it feel like. And its so true, biggest weight lifting idiot right here :) I just need to gain more confidence in that area! I love LOVE spin! It's my favorite!
